Assistens Kirkegård/Assistens Cemetery is located in the center of Nørrebro. The cemetery reflects the history of Denmark (and the world), as a cultural memorial room, where past meets present, with people, which can be placed in our cultural self-understanding:
E.g. Poets, painters, scientists, philosophers and business founders
As a place of high heritage, the task was to find a solution to attract a young audience to feel comfortable with the environment and learn about Denmark's history through those who have passed on. The request is to develop a concept and an App for an Augmented Reality experience, including some kind of gamification of the overall experience, so that the audience through their smartphones playfully, can gain information about e.g. facts, history, etc (using infographic, photos, video etc.) on their tour around the cemetery,
Brainstorm
The first step was constructing the theme of the app and different ways of gamification. It was essential to draft all possibilities of the app, so we could be able to measure the things we are capable of doing within the time range given. Based of our target audience, teenagers between the ages of 13-16, we noticed that they spend most of their time on their phones and very stationary in one place. Our mission with this app was to help teenagers engage more within the park and interact with different places. We minimized phone interaction and allowed the user to be physically active.
The concept of the game was more of a treasure hunt, puzzle game that hints the user with tips of places to visit in order to solve the mystery. The user will visit various graves and be able to scan through them via their phone to receive clues to move to the next mission.
The logo was influenced by some stone work seen at the cemetery. The Assistens has a long tradition of building a spectacular gravestone as a way to honour the dead. This is where the name 'Legends' came from, the Copenhagen cemetery believes people should be treated equally, especially at the time of death. It opens its gate for rich, poor celebrity, even the homeless. Everyone is a legend at the Assitens Cemetery
Colours
Gravestone grey - To symbolize the gravestone and set the mood of the game. Grey works as this foundation layer that supports the other deign elements.
Aqua Blue - A colour that goes well with greys in this context, it highlights the gems.
Papyrus brown - A colour that shows stability. It relates to nature and give a sense of assurance
Typography
Trajan Bold - The font's provided a bubbly bold statement to the brand.
Raleway - The sans-serif font bring differently styles and weights. It helps the brand keep a balance from being fun and looking professional.
One of the objectives was to give the user the opportunity to get to know some of the Danish greats that have contributed to history. This included H.C Andersen, the well-known author who made the ugly duckling, Ben Webster a great jazz musician, Niels Bohr a Nobel Prize physicist and many more.
